Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper helped to develop an early computer, invented the compiler making possible higher level computer languages, and helped to define the design of the programming language COBOL. First a member of the WAVES and the US Naval Reserve, Grace Hopper retired from the Navy several times before returning and gaining the rank of Rear Admiral. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

In her one woman show, Grace Murray Hopper – Navy and Computer Pioneer Regina Rose brings this fascinating woman to life. During the program Regina portrays Grace Hopper (complete in full naval costume!) and talks about her long influential career as a computer pioneer. Your group will learn about nanoseconds, debugging, early struggles and triumphs, and much more.
“Regina Rose stole the show with her comic timing and spot on characterizations.”
Ron Oaks – Director, Woodbrook Players

The performance is very interactive, too. The audience won’t just be listening to a series of dry facts. Instead Regina, as Grace Hopper, engages everyone and even makes them part of the show! Keep in mind this program is a great way to incorporate STEM concepts as well. Science, technology, engineering and math were all a huge part of Grace Hopper’s life.
Eighty-five-year-old Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper who dedicated her life to the Navy passed away on January 1, 1992. As a pioneer Computer Programmer and co-inventor of COBOL, she was known as the Grand Lady of Software, Amazing Grace and Grandma COBOL. While attending college Regina had the pleasure of meeting Grace Hopper, and she never forgot the encounter. The result is this fascinating program that is both educational and entertaining. A living history program your group will long remember.
